MA, TSAI CANVASS VOTES VIA FACEBOOK
To attract young voters, President Ma Ying-jeou has released an "early bird" Facebook application, which gives daily updates of the videos or articles recommended by President Ma, while Tsai has launched netizen gatherings to promote her ideas.
To canvass support and votes from young people, especially from netizens, President Ma Ying-jeou's campaign office has launched a new Facebook application, which aims at sharing recommended videos and articles with young voters.
On the day the application was launched, President Ma checked in his Facebook page to interact with the online community.
More than 680,000 Facebook users have "liked" President Ma's official Facebook page, and caused a temporary system break down.
"Comments and opinions from the netizens will be included in our process of decision making, and we hope that by doing so, we can create a platform for different generations to make the best decision for the country."
President Ma's facebook is now managed by his campaign office.
On the other hand, to win support from young people, DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen signed up for Facebook more than a year ago, and has been holding netizen gatherings to have a better understanding of the public's opinions.
"She has a quick look at the facebook whenever she's free, to see the comments or see if there's any good suggestions that can be adapted into our election campaign."
With six months to go before the presidential election, both candidates have enhanced their campaign on the internet, which is considered to be a fastest way to interact with young voters and share their thoughts.
