FEMALE WORKERS ENTITLED TO MENSTRUAL LEAVE
[0]A female worker of a domestic airline company has accused the company for deliberately making it difficult for its flight attendants to take sick leave for menstrual pain.
The worker said that the company requires all flight attendants to present medical evidence whenever they take such leave on holidays and peak seasons.##
[1]A lot of women experience painful menstrual cramps, which can often leave them calling in sick to work.
However, a flight attendant of an airline company accused her company for making it very difficult for them to take sick leave for menstrual pain during the peak travel seasons and holidays.
They need to provide medical evidence from the assigned hospitals, and must submit the evidence to their supervisors in person on the day they call in sick.
[2]"After I get the medical evidence,
I have to present it to my supervisor in person.
I can't help questioning that the supervisor is not a doctor,
and why do I need to get into the company to let my supervisor to verify if I'm truly feeling unwell,
even though I have got the medical evidence?"
[3]Workers who fail to present medical evidence when taking such sick leave will be punished and blacklisted.
Based on the Gender Equality in Employment Act, female workers may request a menstruation leave for one day in one month.
However, the act also stipulates that employers are entitled to request employees to provide medical evidence when necessary.
Regarding this article, legislators and women's group criticized that it is helping employers to prevent their employees from taking leave.
[4]"Female workers who have to take sick leave for menstrual cramps, basically we think the reason is sufficient,
and even if the employer requests a medical evidence,
one evidence is enough.
We believe it's improper to ask female workers to present medical evidence every time she takes such leave."
[5]The CLA added that it will conduct an investigation into the matter, and if the airline company is found to have violated the Gender Equality in Employment Act by ignoring female workers' rights in taking leave for menstrual pain, it will face fines of between NT$10,000 and NT$100,000.&&
