HEALTH MYTHS?
There are several health advices out there that have been proven to be untrue by studies in the U.S, including depending on urine when you are attacked by a jellyfish. This morning on CTS, we are setting the record straight, and instead we are providing you with the real way of dealing with these situations.##
For the surfers, you are told to urinate on your wound if you ever get sting by a jellyfish.
Right?
Wrong.
There is no proof that urine can ease the pain, in fact, it is nothing but a disgusting idea. However, vinegar can inactivate the stingers and diminish the pain because of its acidity.
So instead of pulling your pants down, soak a paper towel in white vinegar and put it on the wound for 30 minutes for better result.
How about the fact that flip-flops are good for your feet? Sorry to bust your bubble, but that is also a myth.
Most flip-flops lack adequate arch support, cushioning or shock absorption, thus it can create injuries, if you wear it for an extensive period of time.
To prevent pinched nerves, heel pain, tendinitis and strained arches, throw your pair of flip-flops away or go for ones that have cushioned sole and built-in arch support.
And please take a shower after you go for a dip in the pool, because a swim in the pool cannot simply substitute your daily wash.
Regardless of the chlorine in the swimming pool, it is filled with bacteria that can cause diarrhea, ear infections and skin rashes.
So give yourself a good rinse with soap to cut your chance of getting sick.&&
