Based on a recent survey by the Huashan Foudation, around 60 percent of the seniors who live alone have no access to medical treatment through public transportation. Some elders even complain that young people nowadays no longer yield their seats to them, making it more inconvenient for them to go out. For some elders, it can be very inconvenient for them to go out and see a doctor. According to Huashan Foundation's recent survey on 845 seniors living alone in Taiwan, it is found that it's very difficult for the seniors to get proper medical treatment on their own. Around 35 percent of the elders take buses to hospitals on their own, only to find that sometimes there are no seats available. In addition to the problems of transportation, the survey also shows that nearly 43% of the elders can't understand what their doctors tell them about their physical condition or illness, while 50% of them feel uncomfortable with seeing doctors. The foundation reminded the elderly that they can apply for volunteers to help them seek medical service. At the same time, they also hope that the public can yield their seats to the seniors so that they can get access to medical treatment easily.
