NEW IMMIGRANTS, NEW DREAMS
A group of foreign spouses from Southeast Asia have been selling their homeland cuisines in Kaohsiung to support a foundation that helps new immigrants in Taiwan.
Wu Guan-mei, the initiator of the group, even encourages others to get a cooking license to fulfill their dreams of owning a restaurant.
From Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, this cuisine is all put on the table.
There are salads, small buns and lots of other food. It seems like a type of fusion cuisine with different color, flavor and taste.
It is all made by new immigrants.
Here is a type of Indonesia pineapple cake which can be sampled. Wu Guan-mei is from Vietnam and with these other women, they have created this kitchen and have studied how to improve Southeast Asian cuisine.
They will share their delicious results on the eve of Mother's Day. Wu has received Kaohsiung County's 2009 exemplary mother and her life is being filmed as part of a documentary, as she believes her life is a reflection of her own mother.
Wu hopes to make deep roots in Taiwan and has been the first to obtain a Class C chef license.
She encourages other foreign brides to do the same and follow their dream as she ultimately hopes to open a restaurant.
