GREEN TEA GOOD FOR YOUR BONES
The health benefits of green tea may have been well-publicized, but few people probably know that it's also good for the bones. According to a recent study from Taiwan's NCKU hospital, just five hundred milliliters of green tea per week over a period of six months will help to reduce the risk of osteoporosis by 40%.
A National Cheng Kung University Hospital research team has discovered that drinking green tea at least once a week for at least six months can help prevent osteoporosis.
According to the team's research report, those that are in the habit of drinking tea are 47% less likely to develop osteoporosis.
The polyphenols and flavonoids in freshly brewed tea help bones retain calcium, and green tea in particular has high levels of both.
In contrast, fermented black tea, bubble black tea, and canned tea have low polyphenol and flavonoid levels.
Experts warn that over-consumption of tea could contribute to osteoporosis, gastric problems, and insomnia. Therefore, moderation is key.
