COMMEMORATIVE EVENT FOR LATE FU CHENG
The DPP party just held a commemorative event in Taipei to mark the 20th anniversary of the death of the late democratic activist, Fu Cheng, who was one of the party's main founders in 1986. DPP presidential candidate and Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen was in attendance to honor Fu's life-long contribution to Taiwan.
The DPP recently hosted a memorial service to honor the 20th anniversary of the
death of the party's founder and patriarch at the DPP's place of origin, the Grand Formosa hotel.
The service included a video calling for party unity.
Committee members also intended to promote the collaboration of DPP presidential candidate Tsai Ing-wen and primary runner-up Su Tseng-chang,
but Su announced he had other engagements and spoiled the party's plans.
It appears some time will have to pass by before the two will appear in public together.
The DPP is currently trying to decide on Tsai Ing-wen's running mate and several have suggested looking in the corporate sector.
Tsai is currently keeping quiet about who will end up being her running mate.
In a recent interview in Washington DC, former Taiwanese US representative Joseph Wu said the DPP government agenda for 2012 may be to adopt the Macau system,
in which the one-China policy is replaced by the "1992 Consensus" system.
However, Tsai says that Wu's own opinions are not in line with the DPP's thinking.
Tsai says that should the DPP regain administrative power, she will not seek to alter the relationship between Taiwan and China.
Instead the two countries will focus on the future and finding a mutually beneficial exchange.
