HUWEI SENIOR HIGH'S FIRST NTU MED STUDENT IN DECADES
One of the 20 applicants accepted into NTU's Department of Medicine this time has become an instant celebrity in Yunlin County by setting a unique record.
She is the first fresh graduate in the 71-year history of the Huwei senior high to ever break into that elite group among medical students.
Kuo Fang-tzu recently became the first student in the 70-year history of Yunlin's Hu-Wei Senior High School to be admitted to National Taiwan University's School of Medicine.
Kuo says that she'd been depressed after being rejected from National Yang-Ming University's School of Medicine, and that she learned a lot from the NTU interview process.
When asked about her study habits, Kuo said that she doesn't have any special methods apart from concentrating in class and time management.
Her only after-school curricular activity is sessions with a foreign language tutor, and her teachers say that Wu actively and willingly helps her classmates with problems.
Apart from personal interest in medicine, Wu says that she wanted to pursue the field after seeing her aunt struggle with illness.
Her interest in the field was also piqued while working as a medical volunteer during summer and winter vacations and discovering that there were many patients in need in rural areas.
She therefore hopes to help the disadvantaged upon graduating.
