REVIVING THE LOCAL BAMBOO INDUSTRY
In order to find new opportunities for the declining bamboo industry in Yunlin, a local bamboo factory has started to build the traditionally-styled barn house, "Gu Ting Ban" with bamboos. And the new product is surprisingly popular among consumers.
Linnei Area in Yunlin County was originally the place that produces bamboos. In early years, many people sell bamboos for a living.
However, bamboo industry has been declining as time passes and few people are doing the bamboo business now.
In order to find new business opportunities for bamboo products, a bamboo factory owner has decided to use local bamboos to build Gu Ting Ban, a traditional barn house used in early farming villages.
The factory owner said that Gu Ting Ban was used to store barns, grains and crops. But people no longer use them now.
He hoped that through producing the traditional Gu Ting Ban, he can find some new opportunities for the bamboo industry.
Even though the cost of making the Gu Ting Ban is not very high, it takes a long time to build one because it is all hand-made, from weaving the bamboo sheets to making clay pastes.
The current production volume is three Gu Ting Bans per month. Still, the traditional product has brought some new customers for the local bamboo factory.
