Welcome the First Sunrise in Taitung
If you're still wondering where to welcome the dawn of the first day of ROC's centennial year, try one of these itineraries recommended by the Taitung County government. Tourists are encouraged to go to events held at Taimali and Sanhsientai or even to Lanyu to enjoy the sunrise in the traditional aboriginal canoes sailing on the big blue sea.
Every year, tourists brave chilly weather to watch the first sunrise of the year at Sanhsientai.
The Taitung County Government recently announced sea, air, and land options for those that want to watch the first sunrise of the Republic of China's centennial year.
Following New Year's Eve festivities, revelers can walk 7 kilometers from Haibin Park to Taitung Train Station or Fugang Fishing Harbor and take sunrise trains to Taimaili, or take a free shuttle to Sanhsientai.
Planes will take off at 5:30 a.m. for those that want to watch the sunrise from the air. Green Island is also offering sea and land options.
Boats will depart from Fugang Fishing Harbor and sail into the Pacific Ocean, and a flag ceremony and series of performances will be staged at Chaori Hot Springs and Fanchuanbi.
Over in Lanyu, women will be allowed to row out to sea in canoes for the first time to watch the first sunrise of the year. In northern Taiwan, a 60 million NT fireworks show will light up the night sky over Taipei 101 at midnight, and the words "ROC 100" will appear on the building on the night of January 1st.
"ROC 100" will remain on the building for one month.
