TAIWAN PAVILION MAY NOT BE READY FOR 10/10?
The construction for the Taiwan Pavilion has officially began, but with a projected time of more than 8 months until completion, the question remains whether it will be ready for the public in celebrating the nation's Double Tenth Day this year.
Hsinchu City Mayor, Hsu Min-tsai and city government officials all attended the ceremony that set off the re-construction of the Taiwan Pavilion.
The area of the Taiwan Pavilion Cultural Park will be around 4.9 hectares, and the project is about to cost 800 million NT dollars and 260 days to finish, which is unlikely to be done by the Double Tenth Day this year.
Earlier in the past January, the mayor said with confidence that the city government will re-open the pavilion on the Double Tenth Day this year, to mark the Republic of China's centennial celebration.
However, the reconstruction work seems not going well because the fund-raising for the reconstruction work still falls behind, while only few contractors would dare to bid for the project, as the schedule to finish the work is too tight.
The contractor that won the bid for the Taiwan Pavilion reconstruction work used to participate in the construction work of the 2009 Deaflympics held in Taipei, the Dajia water screen of the flora expo, and the theme hall of Taiwan Lantern Festival held in Miaoli.
Still, the contractor said that they will try their best to finish the project by the end of this year, to present the beauty of this heart-shaped Taiwan Pavilion to the public.
