DOMESTIC DONATION DECLINING?
We have raised a sum of around 4.4 billion NT dollars in Taiwan for the victims in Japan. However, the generous contribution for our neighboring country is unfortunately taking a toll on the domestic donation on the island, which has dropped by around 20 to 30 percent last month.
Showing a long-term commitment to the rights of children, the Child Welfare League Foundation has a whole row of these "love" T-shirts.
Last year, they would sell 30,000 in one month.
However, with the earthquake in Japan this year, it is difficult for them to sell 10,000 units, with a decline of 5 million NT dollars compared to the same period last year.
Japan's earthquake and tsunami have led more people to donate to Japan though domestic social welfare organizations have had a direct impact.
Donations in March have fallen 20-30% compared to last year.
It is not just the Child Welfare League Foundation, but also the Garden of Hope Foundation who helps vulnerable women who also saw fundraising drop by 20%.
Even the Children Are Us Foundation for mentally challenged children, the Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation, and the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families are facing a similar situation.
Every time there is a large natural disaster, there is competition for contributions.
These social welfare groups remind everyone that besides being concerned about Japan, please do not forget about the needs of disadvantaged groups and children in Taiwan.
