TW RESIDENTS OPENING DOORS FOR VICTIMS
Following the disaster in our neighboring country, people in Taiwan are opening up their doors by offering their homes for quake victims to stay in the meantime. So far, there are 100 spots for those who need assistance and for those who want to escape the heartbreaking site.
On March 11th, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake hit northern Japan.
The deadly disaster killed thousands of people and caused huge financial losses.
Besides donating relief goods and raising funds for the disaster-stricken country, governments in Taiwan and some local groups are hoping to offer homestay accommodation, which lasts from 2 to 4 weeks for students and families from the disaster-hit northeast region of Japan.
The organizations that propose the idea would raise the air tickets.
According to legislators, Changhua County and Tainan City government have agreed to join the effort in offering 100 homestay families who would provide homestay accommodation to 100 disaster victims.
While the communication capability in Japanese has raised doubts, legislators believe that more than 1.1 million Japanese visitors come to Taiwan each year, this proves language is not a huge barrier.
The organizers urge more Taiwanese families to join the charity effort and help out.
