MORE VISITORS, MORE JOBS?
The number of Chinese visitors has hit a new high this past February, according to the latest stats from the Tourism Bureau.
More than 30 tour agencies are now putting their focus on luring more mainlanders to come to Taiwan, with many of them looking to up their manpower.
However, with the increasing demand of positions, people in the industry are saying that the pay may not be necessarily better.
Tons of Chinese visitors stream into popular tourist destinations in Taiwan.
According to a statistics by the Tourism Bureau, the number of Chinese visitors to Taiwan continues to grow.
In February alone, the number was 115,000, setting a historic high.
Cross-strait authorities are negotiating on allowing solo Chinese travelers to Taiwan in this July.
Betting on the market hype, more than 30 travel agencies jump into to the market to receive Mainland Chinese tourists in the first quarter of this year.
The Rules Governing Permits for People from Mainland China Conducting Tourists' Activities in Taiwan specify that tour agencies that receive Chinese tourists have to have at least five years in business and submit a deposit of 1 million NTD, which is a high standard.
Betting on the economic revival, many job opportunities in the field are emerging, besides tour guides, there are many sales positions available.
Insiders believe this would be a great opportunity for those interested in the tourism sector to get a start.
But because the industry is quite competitive in nature without relatively higher pay, those who can work under stress and have thorough knowledge of the tourism code would be given priority in the job-hunting game.
