NO PRICE HIKE ON LUNCH SERVICE FOR ELDERS
The Association for the Elderly in Yunlin County's Erlun Township has been providing lunch service to senior citizens at a low cost for 8 years. The recent increase on commodity prices has created a financial burden on the association, but the workers said that they will cope with the problem by changing the menu, instead of hiking up the prices of the meals.
This healthy meal which includes two fresh vegetable items, an over easy, fish, broiled meatballs, complete with a bowl of soup, costs only 25 NT dollars for the senior folks in Yunlin County, Erlun Township.
Maintaining the price at only 25 NT dollars for a complete healthy meal is not easy, as commodity prices for fuel and salad dressing have increased exponentially.
Besides government subsidies, workers in the senior home also choose local fresh produce to complete their menu and lessen costs.
In fact, several senior homes provide affordable food for senior citizens, but many homes are struggling amid the commodity price increase.
However, the Erlun Township Senior home stubbornly choose to keep with its original price and is adamant about using the freshest ingredients for its meals for senior citizens.
It is certainly no easy feat.
