REAL-LIFE "TRANSFORMERS"?
The next "Transformer" movie may still be several months away, but a car-turned-giant-robot can already be found in Taitung now, thanks to the artistry of a local auto mechanic.
This three-meter tall robot was built by an auto mechanic in Taitung County's Taimali Township.
He used more than 100 discarded car parts to build the robot, which was modeled after Transformer robots.
The robot can currently be found on the roadside by Provincial Highway No. 9, and has become something of a local attraction.
To its side is a smaller Transformer that first appeared one year ago.
The mechanic says that Taitung's tourism industry went downhill after Typhoon Morakot, and that he wanted to do something to help.
The larger Transformer's torso was built with a car trunk and provides a clear view of the surrounding area when people climb inside.
The mechanic says that he hopes to one day create a controllable Transformer like the ones he grew up watching in cartoons that can move and serve the community.
