Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation is planning to extend its rail system to Taipei's Nangang District in 2015, which is expected to alleviate the heavy traffic flow in Taipei Railway Station. Also, the corporation has announced its new services which allow passengers to enter the platforms simply by placing their phones close to the sensors at ticketing gates.

The Nangang Railway Station will soon also be a station on the THSR line.

The two train systems will adopt an infrastructure similar to that of Taipei Main Station but will use different platforms.

The THSR Nangang Station is entering its final preparatory stages and is expected to start running in 2015.

According to the signed BOT agreement between the THSR and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the THSR will have 12 operating stations in the future.

In addition to the current eight stations in operation right now, there will be the Nangang Station, which will open in 2015, as well as the Miaoli, Changhua, and Yunlin Stations.

All are currently undergoing station design and planning.

The THSR hopes that after the new additions, it will be able to attract more passengers.

Meanwhile, the "paperless ticket plan" has taken effect this year, which allows passengers to book seats and pay directly from their smartphones.

Passengers will download a QR code which will allow them entry into the station just as an MRT EasyCard does after swiping the phone through the sensor system.

The THSR financial report last year showed a loss of over four billion NT dollars.

THSR chair Ou Jinde says that he hopes the financial loss will be reduced to under one billion NT dollars this year and balance out the costs and revenues.

He also says he hopes to push out more supplementary services and start selling peripheral products to increase profits.
