SUN AND SOONG EXHIBITION OPENS
Personal items of ROC Founder Dr. Sun Yat-sen and his wife Soong Ching-ling are showcased in a special exhibition which just opened this month in Taipei. Many of them came from Beijing and are put on display in Taiwan for the first time, including the wedding gift Soong received from her revolution-minded husband--a Mauser pistol.
Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching-ling married in Tokyo on October 25th, 1915.
Apart from jewelry, Sun presented Soong with a loaded handgun on their wedding day.
Although Soong's family was against the match, her parents eventually recognized the marriage and later presented her with a dowry.
One of the most special items was an embroidered garment that Soong's mother had worn on her wedding day.
The dowry also included a blanket embroidered with 100 children.
To commemorate the Republic of China's centennial year, a special exhibition of Sun and Soong's personal belongings is being held at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.
The exhibition includes more than 70 items, including a number of Soong's belongings that have never been exhibited in Taiwan before and cards she drew for her children.
Admission to the "Sincere Love--Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching-ling Cultural Relics Exhibition" is free.
