A DUEL OF TEA EGGS
A war between two brands of snacks has been waged at the famous Sun Moon Lake in Central Taiwan, where the signature local delicacy "Grandmother's Tea Eggs" now faces stiff competition from a challenger from Tainan. So who will emerge as the winner in the end? Let's take a look.
"Grandmother's Tea Leaf Eggs" have been a Sun Moon Lake staple for over half a century.
The eggs are prepared with Yuchih Township's mushrooms and Assam black tea leaves, and the shop serves thousands of customers every day.
Recently, one of Tainan's most famous tea leaf egg proprietors, Chihyi's "Police Chief Tea Leaf Eggs," set up shop at Sun Moon Lake.
The latter prepares eggs with Coca Cola, soy sauce, and Chinese medicinal herbs, and the eggs are stewed for two days until they turn dark brown.
The flavors of the herbs seep into the egg yolks, and the eggs are extremely popular with tourists. Both brands have their own loyal customer base.
Those that like the flavor of medicinal herbs prefer Police Chief eggs, while those that like the flavor of mushrooms prefer Grandmother eggs.
