Illegal Boathouses Booked for Nye
You may not know that some of the boathouses around Sun Moon Lake have been considered illegal because of its two-story structure. Disregarding Nantou prosecutor's request to torn it down, the business owners have made big bucks just this past New Year's Eve weekend, with people paying up to 20,000 NT dollars for one night stay.
These two-story buildings were built on top of boats, and are illegal structures.
Some of the buildings are so large that they are being used as holiday villas, and prosecutors have asked the boathouse operators to take down the illegal structures.
The operators are not only ignoring prosecutors, but even promoting the villas online as idyllic holiday spots with excellent views of Sun Moon Lake.
Rates start at 6,000 NT per night, and run up to 19,000 NT per night for an entire house.
All 100 of the area's boathouses have been booked for New Year's Eve weekend, and tourists perhaps have no idea that they are booking illegal structures.
With so much income to be made, the boathouse operators could care less about the authority of prosecutors.
