A Stroll Down the History Lane
A unique photography show opened in Taipei on Friday, which features 180 photographs chronicling historical moments of the ROC over the past six decades. And one of them even reveals the lighter side of former president Chiang Kai-shek.
At a photo exhibition to mark Taiwan's 100th year showing the years of Martial Law from the 40s to 70s, several before unseen photos have emerged.
One of the photos shows Chiang Kai-shek in a rare display of humor, with his tongue sticking out in front of several reporters.
Another photo shows President Ma in the 1950s, when he was a second-year law student at National Taiwan University and was receiving former President Chiang Ching-kuo at the airport.
Further along the exhibition hall, there is a 1957's photo of two little girls giving flowers to Chiang Kai-shek.
The two little girls turned out to be celebrities, Josephine Siao and Chiang Hsiao-yan.
Another photo shows former vice president Lian Chan's wife in 1962, when she was the third Miss China.
Several pictures also show the immigration of the Dachen Archipelago residents in February 1955.
There were several reporters at the scene but information was deemed confidential.
Other photos document the Taiwan and U.S. relations during the time period of World War II, when U.S. Presidents Nixon and Eisenhower, as well as the U.S.'s Seventh fleet visited Taiwan.
A total of 180 photos showing the history of Taiwan are now being exhibited at 101 to mark the 100th year of the ROC.
