Lishan Hotel's Face Lift
Chiang Kai-shek's favorite summer house, the Lishan Hotel, used to be one of the three best-known palatial structures on the island. But the building was later destroyed by earthquakes and typhoons. Now the government has allocated a budget of 100 million NT dollars to restore it to its former splendor.
This is the Lishan Hotel before the natural disasters.
Its beauty showed through its palace style, whereas the stone stairs and the golden stone lions in front of the main gate gave a luxurious appearance.
The Lishan hotel is located at Chung-hen, 2000 meters above the sea level, where one could enjoy the bright view above the mountain and the refreshing atmosphere. No wonder, that Lishan Hotel is Chiang Kai-shek's favorite place to spend time during the hot summer season.
Since its grand opening in 1969, the hotel is fully booked most of the time. Unfortunately, it had to shut down its business due to the demolition by 921 earthquake.
Now, the government is giving 100 million NTD to restore this historical place, whereas the ancient Chinese palace style it used to have will be retained. The completion of this project is to be expected at the end of 2011.
People will then have the choice between three hotels with historical palace style, where they could feel like a king, just like in the ancient Chinese culture. The first two are the Grand Hotels in Taipei and Kaohsiung and of course, the new Lishan Hotel in Taichung.
