A NEW HOPE FOR CATARACT PATIENTS
The research team at Academia Sinica confirms that eye drops containing Pirenoxine are effective in treating cataract by reducing the cloudiness of the eye lens. Eye doctors from the study team also said that people over the age of 50 with early stage of cataract can use products with PRX to prevent their condition from getting worse.
Eye drops can alleviate eye soreness or infection.
But an eye drop containing the non-prescription drug pirenoxine is now proven by the research team of Institute of Biological chemistry of Academia Sinica that such eye drop can effectively reduce cloudiness of the lens.
In fact, the eye drop has been used for more than 60 years and only until recently did a research team in Taiwan prove that it can effectively treat cataract.
The major discovery was reported in an international journal Inorganic Chemistry, a thrilling news for the research team.
Eye doctor Hu Chao-chien, who is also on the research team, says now the health insurance only covers cataract patients with a vision below 0.4 and those who need operations.
This discovery further confirms that patients experience early stage of cataract would prevent the conditions from worsening by using the eye drop.
Doctors remind that people over the age of 50 should be aware of signs of cataract, such as blurred vision and sensitivity to light.
