Flying Eye Hospital
The ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital, literally a hospital with wings that brings together volunteer doctors to give the gift of sight to developing countries is currently visiting Taiwan to thank its generous donors for fighting against blindness.
This is the world's only Flying Eye Hospital with the cabin being modified with an operating room in the middle as it is completely stocked with medical equipment.
For 30 years, this aircraft has been staffed by more than five hundred volunteers including ophthalmologists who have traveled to over seventy countries, undertaking ten million eye surgeries for poor patients.
The mission is to save the blind.
The founder of the "ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital," is Texas ophthalmologist David Paton who was able to raise donations to successfully set up this international non-profit organization.
The mission was to dedicate itself to countries with insufficient medical resources, providing treatment to poor patients suffering eye diseases.
Although Taiwan has advanced medical equipment and personnel, love knows no borders,
and the people of Taiwan have made an annual average contribution of 30 to 40 million as this is the 5th visit to Taiwan to express gratitude.
This plane has traveled around the world and has helped countless patients.
It will be on view from now until November 9th at the Taipei Songshan Airport on this special goodwill visit.
