LACK OF VITAMIN D CAN LEAD TO SICKNESS?
Hospitals around the island have been overwhelmed from the surge of flu cases recently, which claimed 15 lives during the Chinese New Year holiday because of the sickness. Medical experts say that these patients may be suffering from Vitamin D deficiencies, and are suggesting the public to give more thoughts during the change of seasons.
Peak cold and flu season hit right before Chinese New Year, and 15 flu-related deaths were reported during the holiday.
Many doctors say that they are treating the same patients over and over again, and that a high percentage of these patients suffer from Vitamin D deficiencies.
Experts say that those that get little exposure to sunlight, overweight people, and elderly people are especially prone to Vitamin D deficiencies and low immunity.
Anyone whose symptoms last for more than three to five days should seek medical attention immediately.
According to experts, pressure and stress can also contribute to low immunity, and getting enough sleep and sun, eating a balanced diet, and exercising regularly can keep people healthy.
