With the legislative race approaching, the KMT has set an official goal of winning more than half of the seats in the year-end election. And to maximize its chance of winning, the ruling party now considers asking cabinet-level officials to join the race. The list may include the head of Government Information Office, Johnny Chiang, and the advisory commissioner of National Security Bureau, Lee Chia-chin.

The KMT has its sights set on increasing its majority in the year-end legislative elections, and a team of high-ranking government and party officials met on Wednesday to discuss strategy.

The party is expected to enlist high-profile officials to run, including National Security Bureau advisory commissioner Lee Chia-chin in New Taipei City, KMT Culture and Communications Committee Director Su Chun-pin in Taoyuan, Government Information Office Minister Johnny Chiang in Fengyuan, and former Taipei City Deputy Mayor Lee Yong-ping also returning to the race.

Some within the party feel that the strategy concentrates excessively on northern Taiwan, while no suitable candidates are being fielded in the south.

Meanwhile, current legislators say that high-profile officials should run in areas where challenges exist rather than in the north.

The KMT is expected to finalize its nomination process in mid-March.
