FREE LUNCH FOR UNDERPRIVILEGED STUDENTS
For some economically disadvantaged students, school lunches are often the only regular meal they have in a day. And in order to prevent these students from starving during the winter vacation, Yilan County government has organized a special program that offers free lunches to those who attend winter tutorial sessions.
Children seemed to have a great time enjoying pizza, fries and soup since they seldom have these foods because they are from disadvantaged families.
Ilan County magistrate Lin Tsung-hsien also sat down and ate with the children.
In fact, this lunch was a part of the special program offered by the Ilan County Government to ensure disadvantaged children have lunch during the long winter break.
Those who attend the supplementary school can have the lunch.
Some of the foods were made by the students and faculty members together.
Since it was a big meal, many kids were thinking about packing some for their family members too.
The lunch budget for disadvantaged children was only 250,000 NTD and it can feed more than 600 of them in Ilan. So children from such families can continue learning and have enough food to eat during winter vacation.
