Relief Aid Available for Victims
With no mercy, the rain pounded hard, destroying homes and leaving ruins behind in Yilan County. After visiting the storm affected-area, President Ma Ying-jeou has announced that the government will provide 25,000 NT dollars in relief aid to each household who experienced water that exceeded 50 centimeters in height. However, many victims remain unhappy in regard to how government handle the situation, criticizing that the president's move is merely for show.
President Ma Ying-jeou and premier Wu Den-yih led a group of central government officials to inspect the disaster-affected areas in Yilan.
Near the Nantien Temple of Nanfangao, the house of the family was almost submerged by debris.
The front door was less than 50 centimeters after the landslide happened.
The Chung-shan Road of Suao Township was also badly hit by the typhoon, which brought huge rain that almost flooded half of the county.
Therefore, the president announced on the spot that the government will subsidize disaster-affected families following the practice of subsidizing Typhoon Morakot victims.
Disaster victims are not required to submit any photo proof.
Although the subsidy program is well received by some local residents, angry victims slammed the president in his face.
This typhoon caused 80 million financial losses in Yilan's fishing and farming industry.
When visiting a fish farm in Wujie Township, President Ma promised the central government would compensate the loss at its best and if the Yilan county government suffers from financial difficulties, the central government would also allocate the funding first to address the urgent needs of disaster victims.
