Healthy And Happy Meals
With the childhood obesity problem getting worse, the government has taken some measures to deal with the public health issue.
Targeting fast food restaurants, toys will not be allowed to be included in the happy meals unless salad is ordered along with it.
In the future, according to the authority, toys will not be included in children's happy meal unless salad is ordered as the side meal for the children.
Upon hearing the news, children and parents have different responses.
Fast foods such as hamburgers, fried chicken and french fries are very tempting for children and these foods have even attracted more children because toys are given with the happy meal. However, the high calories of fast food have caused serious obesity problems in children.
With the legislators expressing their concerns over the issue, the Consumer Protection Commission and Department of Health have worked with National Communications Commission on the regulation of marketing those foods that are high in calories and low in nutrition.
The authorities have reached a conclusion that the Department of Health will assist fast-food chains to follow their conclusion and in the future, toys are not to be given to children unless salad is ordered as the side meal of their happy meal.
Currently, even though the regulation is not mandatory, both of the two fast-food chains, McDonalds and KFC, are willing to follow the government's suggestion.
Also, the two fast-food chains are working on creating new recipes with fruits such as apples and strawberries for their salads to attract more children.
