This magical Christmas tree has a special chemical solvent applied and after 10 minutes it grows white crystals.
After 1 or 2 hours, they grow longer and more colorful looking like a Christmas tree.
They look just like snowflakes and ice crystals.
It is a very popular product with one pack costing just 10 NT$ dollars.
Many mothers are very curious.
After opening the packaging and assembling the two pieces of cardboard into a Christmas tree and inserting it into a plastic plate a chemical solution is added to the edges.
From this come the white crystals.
This mother's 2 year old child Chiang-Chiang is quite curious and constantly wants to reach out and touch it.
She is concerned that her child may want to eat it.
Asking a chemistry teacher about the contents, she says it's a highly volatile organic solvent that may contain unknown toxic substances.
It should not be eaten.
Parents should be reminded not to let their children touch or eat these crystals as vomiting and allergic reactions could be severe as well as symptoms of poisoning.
