You might not want your children to grow as tall as NBA stars, but you'd better choose wisely when you prepare food for the kids because an unbalanced diet is affecting the health of children and causing more problems than you think.

While Taiwan now sees one-quarter of children being overweight, a recent survey found that about one-third of children are fussy eaters and many of them are actually underweight. Experts warn that unbalanced diet could also lead to attention deficit and emotional instability in children.

Children are blindfolded as they try to eat food that they typically refuse to eat.

One can see their facial expression as they eat Chinese yam, eggplant, and bitter melon.

Each of these things are not quite to the taste of children.

A Child Welfare League Foundation survey found that Taiwanese children are most afraid of bitter foods such as bitter melon which is the most feared vegetable.

Nearly 80% of children totally refuse bitter melon.

This is followed by eggplant, Chinese yam and pumpkin and green pepper which are also unwelcome as nearly 40% of children dont eat vegetables every day leading to serious nutritional problems.

The Child Welfare League Foundation also found that these children and the knowledge of their parents has a close relationship.

A survey found that these children who are fussy eaters are typically because their family only has a certain amount of fixed food.

Nutritionists recommend that even if children do not eat the food it should occasionally still appear at the dinner table.

They also encourage other cooking techniques to mash up Chinese yam with onions and ground meat to make burgers that children eat with delight.
