Leanness Drug Scare

After the police suspected that some pork containing the banned leanness drug have been sold in the markets, many shoppers are concerned with buying chemical-contaminated pork. Here on CTS, we are teaching you how to tell the difference between healthy pork and those that could possibly contain leanness- enhancing feed additive.

Shoppers at hypermarkets are wary of a new line of pork meat that was made from pigs who were raised on the weigh-loss drug, Clenbuterol.

The slabs of pork meat on the counter all show a white layer of natural pork fat.

Many people who don't like fat meat will sometimes pick out lean meat, and some vendors have a found a way to produce pork meat without the natural layer of fat.

It is easy to differentiate between pork that is affected by Clenbuterol and regular pork by looking at the sliced slabs of pork.

Naturally produced pork will have a 5 cm layer of fat between the pork meat and rind, while pork that has been affected with Clenbuterol will have no such layer.

The lean pork has no oily taste, but will induce nausea, dizziness, and heightened blood pressure, all symptoms of food poisoning.

These are the same results as the poultry incident from two years ago.

The bags of white powder containing Clenbuterol were put into chicken feed.

A whole family who had consumed poultry affected with Clenbuterol were sent to the hospital when they started vomiting and blacking out.

Clenbuterol is a chemical toxin which usually accumulates in the internal organs of the pigs, such as the liver and lungs.

Shoppers are reminded to be careful when shopping for pork; naturally produced pork should have a 5 cm layer of fat in between the pork meat and rind, while pork with no fat is likely to be affected with Clenbuterol.
