The film tells the tales of four new immigrants as they establish families, work, and fight for their rights. Yao Yao arrived in Taiwan from her native Thailand 15 years ago for work, and eventually married a local man.
In order to take care of her children, she has worked night shifts for years.
It took the women two years to produce the film, and director Hou Hsiao-hsien, who helped with the project, says that the film is extremely moving because it tells real stories.
The women hope that the film can encourage more foreign spouses and laborers in Taiwan to stand up and fight for their rights with courage.
