Many people dream about setting sail in their own private yacht.

Soon, Taiwanese citizens may be able to do just that - steer their own yacht and enter into oceanic realms.

Owning a yacht means individuals can bask in the sun or go deep-sea fishing.

Taiwan, which is completely surrounded by the ocean, ranks as Asia's top manufacturer of yachts and ranks number seven globally.

The Legislative Yuan has recently passed a new policy that will allow individual possession of yachts.

Yacht owners will only have to fax in report before they set sail.

Evergreen International Corp. Chair Chang Rong-fa and Ruentex Group Chair Yin Yanliang are both yacht afficianados.

However, even though the new policy will be passed, there are several restrictions on route and wharf anchoring, and it may defeat the purpose of owning a yacht.

In additon, there is insufficient training in yacht sailing, such as determining weather conditions and maritime space, as well as yacht repair.

It is also possible that the passing of the new policy will bring about sea traffic complications.
