Public Debate in the Talks
The three Kaohsiung mayoral candidates have agreed to take part in a televised debate, but so far, they haven't been able to reach a consensus on how the debate should be carried out. Mayor Chen Chu and Huang Chao-shun have accepted Yang Chiu-hsing's invitation to participate, but further details need to be discussed before voters can witness this showdown.
Yang Chiu-hsing's campaign spokesperson, Tseng Yin-li, personally delivered a debate invitation to Chen Chu's campaign headquarters earlier this week.
Although Kaohsiung's three mayoral candidates have agreed to take part in a televised debate, Yang is also hoping for a debate that will include media participation.
Yang's invitation to Chen was delivered to Chen's spokesperson, Chao Tien-lin, who said that Chen could agree to participate if her conditions are met.
Huang Chao-shun's camp, meanwhile, said that she would welcome the chance to take part in the debate, and that Huang would be happy to let Yang and Chen decide the time and format.
With less than 40 days remaining until voters head to the polls, it remains to be seen whether a media debate can be organized in time.
