Promoting Graffiti Art in Liuqiu
Artsy folks, pack the bags and spray paints for a mini vacation to Pingtung County's Liuqiu.
The owner of a bed and breakfast is showing some southern hospitality. In addition to free stays and free boat rides, he is also offering a space for graffiti artists to showcase their skills, giving Liuqiu a complete makeover.
Remote underground passages, riverbanks, transformer boxes, and the undersides of bridges are often covered in graffiti.
Graffiti artists generally work at night and are constantly on the run from police, but the group that gathered in Liuqiu on this day was able to work out in the open.
The island is situated eight nautical miles off the coast of Pingtung, and the site of the event was a local bed and breakfast.
The owner of the establishment, who documented the transformation of three steel gates with his video camera, says that he wanted to add color to and breathe new life into his hometown.
Many tourists were highly impressed by the work of the artists, and the event quickly drew a large crowd of spectators.
From the smiles on the faces of the area's elderly residents, it is clear that they approve of Liuqiu's new visage, and that the island has become a platform for creativity and innovation.
