And their unity sure paid off. Liuhe Night Market, which has been around for more than 60 years, has conquered all, finishing ahead in terms of having the best food, shopping, and service. It has also won votes for being the most eco-friendly, attractive and popular night market to visit.

The notable papaya milk tea, seafood congee and fried ice cream are among the many delicacies that have earned the support of residents and tourists alike.

Taipei's Shilin Night Market comes in second, and they too have appetizing foods, including the cuttlefish dish, and its sausage entree which are desired by many. Yilan's Luotong Night Market wraps up the top three in this year's contest.

However, this outcome does not conclude the fate of these night markets, because the online battle only takes up 20 percent of the complete score, excluding points from food critiques. The final result will be out on Wednesday, to announce the ultimate number one.
