Following a spate of scandals involving senior judges, the Taiwan High Court took disciplinary actions on Thursday against two of its members: Yang Ping-chen and Kao Ming-tse, who were under accusations of corruption and of perverting the course of justice respectively. And their cases will be submitted to Control Yuan for further investigation.

Taiwan's judicial system has been hit by a series of graft and corruption scandals in recent weeks.

In order to restore public confidence, a seven-member Taiwan High Court internal committee voted unanimously to refer two judges, Yang Ping-chen and Kao Ming-tse, to the Control Yuan for discipline.

Five other individuals are also under investigation in the two cases.

Kao is accused of overturning a guilty verdict and acquitting the son of Supreme Court Judge Hsiao Yang-kuei in a hit-and-run case, and has already resigned.

Hsiao and another Supreme Court Judge, Yang Jen-shou, are both under investigation by a Supreme Court internal committee.

Yang Ping-chen is accused taking bribes, and antiques worth more than 35 million NT were found when his residence was searched.

Last month, Yang applied for a retirement date of September 2nd. As a result, his pension may be affected if the Control Yuan finds him guilty of misconduct.
