Free Touring Shuttles
Make good use of the free shuttle service in Taitung County this summer.
In promoting its local tourism, free shuttle buses will be available for visitors at the train station and the airport. Vacationers can now check out all the hottest attractions without having to worry about transportation.
However, this free service lasting until September is causing a dispute among the taxi drivers who claim the government is robbing from their business.
Summer is almost here.
Taitung County government has received NT$10 million from the Tourism Bureau to set up a shuttle bus tour.
The program will start on the 26th at the Taitung Train Station and Airport.
The shuttle bus tour will use medium buses that can carry 20 people.
There will be three routes: city, East Coast Rift Valley, and East Coast.
22 different times will be offered during the weekend, while 14 scheduled times will be on offer during the weekday.
These free tours will be offered to visitors that ride the train or plane to Taitung.
This is a big reward for many visitors.
Many visitors that take the train to Taitung all rushed to take the free tour bus when they heard the news.
But, this has angered many taxi drivers, who believe the government is stealing their business.
They responded by blocking the bus station.
Police were dispatched to come and establish order.
But these free shuttle buses will end in Sept.
The county government hoped to increase the number of visitors during the summer.
But they didn't realize there would be a backlash from taxi drivers.
Seems like the local government needs to better communicate with the taxi drivers.
