Folkgame Festival Burns
Yilan International Childrens Folkgame Festival just opened Saturday for the first time in three years, and it immediately faces a burning issue. A hanging bridge at the site covered with steel plates are said to be so heated by the sun that they almost hurt the feet of many visitors.
With temperatures soaring during the day, many children couldn't wait to jump onto the water slide at Dongshan River. Those that ran up onto the hanging bridge, however, almost ended up burning their feet. The bridge was covered in turf, but the steel plates under the turf quickly heated up under the sun.
Because the bridge was set up as part of a bicycle path, no measures were undertaken to keep it cool. The Yilan International Children's Folklore and Folkgame Festival was canceled for two consecutive years, and the organizers of the event did their best to create an entertaining and exciting atmosphere. While their endeavor was largely successful, the hanging bridge did not work out as well as they'd hoped.
