Too Darn Hot?
An energy-saving campaign started in Taipei City yesterday. Now, average indoor temperatures of public commercial spaces are not allowed to go below twenty-six degrees Celsius. But have the citizens of Taipei felt the difference? And what is their reaction to it? Here's our story.
Entering the hypermarket, there are few customers though air-conditioning is required as this woman takes an advertisement and uses it as a fan.It may be a little hot as this mother takes young children to this hypermarket to play basketball. If indoor room temperatures will be set at a standard of 26 degrees, will people complain a little? Is it really not cool enough? Holding this thermometer, we actually enter the hypermarket to measure.
This entrance, near the outside sees the temperature drop to only to 27 degrees.Going deeper inside maintaining 26 degrees is not a difficult issue, and when we go to the drinks section or frozen foods, these refrigerators keep food fresh at 4 degrees, as it seems cooler here.
The air temperature has dropped to 24 degrees, and near the freezer it is only 19 degrees. In addition to maintaining room temperature of 26 degrees, business energy saving measures will also include the use of long-lasting energy saving fluorescent lamps, and to close to elevators, ventilation fans need to be used as well as freezer seals to achieve power saving.
Reducing carbon emissions is a programs that large enterprises are willing to cooperate with because it can translate into savings in their wallets, and two supermarkets, over the past year have implement energy conservation programs, with RT Mart saving 500,000 NT$ a year and Carrefour 300,000 NT$.Energy savings can lead to saving money with many businesses willing to cooperate. If people still want to go to these stores just to enjoy the cool air-conditioning, they should modify their views and for the good of the environment, reduce carbon emissions.
