Close to 2 million public sector workers, have left their jobs at schools, hospitals and even police stations for the one-day walkout, to protest against the proposed pension reforms. Marking Britain's largest strike in decades, public sector employees are marching on the streets to voice their opposition against the proposed changes, which demand staffs to work longer before receiving a pension, and to put down more money each month. The latest austerity cuts have caused the shutdown of two thirds of the schools, while thousands of hospital operations have been postponed. In addition, the demonstrators are also denouncing sharp public spending cuts revealed by the government on Tuesday, as well as the current freeze on public pay next year, and a pay raise cap of 1 percent through 2014.
