SAVE THE DOLPHINS
Activists stage a concert in Singapore to protest against 25 dolphins being held in captivity by a local resort. Resorts World Sentosa is training the animals before moving them to what will become the world's largest oceanarium. A spokeswoman said the dolphins are kept for conservation and educational purposes.
RESORTS WORLD SENTOSA SPOKESPERSON, KRIST BOO, SAYING: "It is a century-long debate and while there are different camps and there are divergent views, on how you should conserve a species, propagate a species. I think right now different people have agreed to disagree." And the protest organisers definitely disagree.
ANIMAL CONCERNS RESEARCH AND EDUCATION SOCIETY EXECUTIVE, LOUIS NG, SAYING: "It's almost a hypocrisy to say we're going to catch these dolphins from the wild, contribute to one of the threats, and then use them to try and save dolphins. It doesn't make any sense, it is a big contradiction." The group says the dolphins are being held in confined spaces, but the resort says its enclosures meet international safety regulations.
