The "Notting Hill" bookstore has been listed for sale since May, following the owner's decision to end the business. But to prevent the shop from closing down for good, a group of writers and journalists are offering their help by working for free at the iconic store. So far, no buyers have come forward with offers yet. Founded in 1979, the Travel Bookshop was the backdrop for 1999's hit romantic comedy "Notting Hill", and for the past decade, the store has been a local tourist hotspot in London. The bookstore was owned by Hugh Grant's character Will on the big screen, the place where he met and fell in love with actress Anna, played by Julia Roberts. Writer and broadcaster Ben Fogle, who is also a regular customer, visited the store this week to express his concern that the iconic bookshop might close.''Notting Hill the film, this was the iconic location, and this is what attracts people to Notting Hill, they come here, this is actually probably the last remaining vestige of the Richard Curtis film anyway, so I think this would such a tragedy if it went away.'' He is not the only celebrity to speak out about the potential closure, Alec Baldwin, who played Julia's boyfriend in the movie has also showed his support through Twitter, urging people to participate in the campaign to save the store. Thanks to Baldwin's tweeting, more and more people are sending emails wanting to volunteer and maybe work in the shop for free.But before a potential new owner shows up, the bookstore opened its doors for a closing down sale last week, with all the stock being sold for half price.
