GADDAFI'S RETREAT RANSACKED
This sprawling farmhouse in south Tripoli used to be a favoured getaway of Muammar Gaddafi. But now the mansion is little more than a shell. Bombed by NATO warplanes and looted by rebels, almost nothing remained inside the once heavily-guarded compound on Saturday. The villa has become a curiosity for many Libyans, who marvelled at its luxury.
One of the rebels said, "We used to hear about this farm, but never knew what was inside. Now we see everything inside it. Even for you as journalists, you did not know anything about Gaddafi's farm. What do you think about all the wealth and beauty you see?" The villa was one of several Gaddafi properties that have been looted since rebels overran Tripoli last week - effectively ending the former leader's 42-year-rule.
