The researchers of the Department of Electrical Engineering of National Taiwan University have developed a system that can automatically interpret the genre of the music, and will help listeners choose tunes according to their mood. ## Click into the mood interface, the computer will automatically select music that suits the listeners' mood, whether they are happy, angry, or sad. The upper right part of the interface shows different levels of happiness, from excitement, happiness to joy, and the system will select proper music for the listeners. "The system will play happy music and gradually moves on to more moody songs. All the user has to do is to draw a line here, and the songs will be played based on the order of the list." The world's first automatic music query system that connects emotional interface is developed by researchers of the Department of Electrical Engineering of National Taiwan University. The vertical axis of the graph shows the temperaments of the music. The upper the axis is, the stronger the music is. The horizontal axis shows the happiness of the music. The system sums up the figures of the songs, such as tunes, chords, sound volume, and even the lyrics, and selects the proper music for the listeners. Researchers hope that in the future, the system can detect the brain waves to recommend suitable music for listeners, which can even be used in music therapy. "We hope that the system can detect listener's emotion, and play the music the matches the mood. The other application of the system is music therapy, when the system will choose suitable music to treat the patients." The system has been used in telecommunication system, and users can request songs based on their moods. Researchers have also published over 20 essays on the system, and applied for patent for it.
