200M SEDAN CHAIR BREAKS WORLD RECORD
In Kinmen's Cheng Huang Temple, we are able to see the world's longest sedan chair, setting a new record in the Guinness World Records. The 200-meter long sedan chair can accommodate up to 200 little ones, which takes about 800 men to lift it. Here on CTS, let's take you to see this procession that is believed to have the power to expel evil spirits.
The Cheng Huang Temple of Kinmen held a religious procession earlier this month, with a 200-meter long sedan chair being carried by over 800 men. The chair procession, nicknamed "centipede", is a traditional folk activity exclusively held in Kinmen.
It was carried by adult men, with children sitting on the chairs. Some kids were dressed up as emperors, while others as princesses.
The Kinmen Township Office said that the celebration this year is greater than before because this year marks the ROC's centennial, as well as the 331st anniversary of the Cheng Huang Temple since the it moved to Kinmen.
With a total of 1,246 people participating in the activity, including 200 children, 868 adults to carry the sedan procession and 178 associates, it was also the largest "centipede" procession ever in Kinmen.
After the procession took on a 1.6 km itinerary around the township, the procession was examined and measured by the British adjudicator, Anna Louise Orford, who later issued the official certificate of the Guinness World Records.
The chief of Kin-cheng Township office said that the procession was the fifteenth World Record that Taiwan has ever received.
And unlike the other 14 certificates, this is the only one that identifies the island as the ROC rather than Taiwan territory. And that is what the Kinmen residents are especially proud of.
