A TWO-YEAR DELAY FOR THE TAICHUNG MRT?
The first MRT line in Taichung has been scheduled to start operation in 2015, but it was recently revealed that Taipei's Department of Rapid Transit System, which is in charge of the Taichung project, has postponed the completion date to 2017 instead.
In response, the Taichung city government said that it will try to solve this issue with its Taipei counterpart and meet the original deadline.
The Taichung MRT may be delayed by 2 years as city councilors pointed out that the original Wujih to Peitun Line was to be opened in 2015.
However, the group is responsible for the electric and mechanical systems, Taipei's DORTS and other subcontractors have signed contracts with the scheduled completion date set for October 2017.
The Taichung City Government still hopes that the project could be completed by 2015 with trial operations taking place.
They continue to be optimistic, as Taichung's Department of Transportation has asked DORTS to abide by the original schedule for completion outlined by the Executive Yuan.
DORTS says that problems acquiring land means that construction has not proceeded smoothly.
It hoped that this situation could be resolved to help maintain the original schedule.
