LOOKING AT THE WORLD WITH OPTIMISM
Winners of this year's Chou Ta-kuan Love for Life Award are two sisters from China, who have been suffering from the disease called spinal muscular atrophies of childhood. With an optimistic attitude, the two wrote books to encourage others to not give up, but to live their dreams to the fullest.
The sisters called Hsu Tong-chin and Hsu Tong-may were born in Heilongjiang of China ,with an incurable disease called 'Spinal muscular atrophies of childhood.'
At the later stage of the disease, patients won't be able to swallow or breathe and pass away because of that.
The sisters lost their father to an accident when they were young and their mother bears the sole responsibility of taking care of them.
To not bother their mother, they have to control their desire of drinking and eating.
But the physical limitations don't take away their hopes.
The sisters chose their pen names and started to write, hoping to encourage others with their own stories.
Their latest book 'Life Starts Tomorrow' has been well received.
Doctors diagnosed that they won't survive beyond the age of 30.
Now they are 36 and 34 respectively.
However, the sisters know that their lives are counting down and decide to race against time. Thanks to the assistance of a radio station, they fulfill their dream of becoming a radio show host for one day.
Although their lifes are full of challenges and pain, they believe in their dreams and love, for that complete their lives, no matter how long they are.
