STUDENTS BOYCOTTED POOR SCHOOL LUNCH
Students of an industrial high school in Kaohsiung recently complained online about the deteriorating food quality of school lunches, prompting local authorities to conduct a surprise inspection of the catering firm last week. And while no serious violations of health codes were found, officials did identify a couple of areas requiring improvement.
Students have been boycotting the school lunch maker on line, complaining that there are worms, stones, nails in their lunch, while the minced meat smells sour.
Students and parents have paid a visit to the lunch factory, only to find the situation worse than they had expected.
Students said that there had been many problems in their lunch since the lunch maker started to take over the business last September, however, the food quality got even worse since March and many of the students eat only rice.
Officials from the consumer protection sector, health bureau and education bureau have also visited the factory, and found that the lunch maker used cheap eggs.
Besides, there should have been around 24-28 workers in order to provide lunch for 7200 people, but number of factory workers is less than required.
Also, even though workers wore gloves as requested, but they didn't change gloves before they make food, or after they move the boxes.
The poor management of the factory has jeopardized the food safety of the school lunch.
